The biological meaning of adult means an animal that is capable of reproduction. The term "adult" is often employed in relation to human beings to refer to social and legal concepts. Contrary to the concept of a non-adult or "minor" legally adult is at the point of majority. They are considered independent, self-sufficient, and responsible. They may also be regarded as an "major". 18 is the typical legal age for adulthood but this could be different depending on your country and the status of the law and also the maturity of the mind.

In the lifespan of an individual, adulthood refers to the point at which he or she attains full mental and physical maturity. Adulthood, as typically understood, is at the age of either 20 or 21. It is around 60 years old after middle years. Adulthood can be divided into three stages: early adulthood (18-mid-30s), mid-30s-mid-60s, then late adulthood from mid-60s up to end of life. When we reach early adulthood, our body has reached the fullest physical maturation. However, our size and weight may increase. As we enter our early adulthood the physical capabilities of our bodies are at their peak such as muscle strength, reaction time, sensory abilities, and cardiac functioning.
